Carl Broemel of My Morning Jacket will set out on his headlining tour this fall in support of his solo LP 4th of July (Stocks in Asia/Thirty Tigers). These dates come on the heels of a successful summer run for My Morning Jacket, which saw the band play such venues as Forest Hills, Electric Forest Festival and Willie Nelson’s Outlaw Festival.
Joining on these dates is the band Steelism, who will serve as Carl’s backing band and also direct support throughout the tour. Steelism and Carl have a storied history of playing together, most recently at Newport Folk Festival where Steelism served as Carl’s backing band.
Carl recently also covered Beck’s “The Golden Age” for Amazon’s On The Road Playlist. The track also featured Tom Blankenship (My Morning Jacket) on bass, Russ Pollard (Everest) on drums, Robbie Crowell (Deer Tick) on keys, Adam Landry (Deer Tick) on guitars and Caitlin Rose on backing vocals.
Of the song, Broemel said, “The original song is such a masterpiece, the sounds and production are impeccable, it is restrained and yet so powerful. I thought it might be fun to approach the song in a more live feeling bombastic way…more like Neil Young Crazy Horse might have played it.” Consequence of Sound, who premiered the track noted: “Indeed, compared to Beck’s version, Broemel’s shines bigger and brighter. Similar to a sunrise that slowly envelopes the whole sky, the cover radiates a special pastoral sheen, its guitars gorgeous, sun-kissed, and stretching, like the wide open roads that seem to crisscross endlessly throughout America.”
