We got wind of some sad news today- Lil Boosie has been diagnosed with kidney cancer. He revealed the news on Instagram, asking his fans to “prayfaboosie.” The caption has since been removed.
This is not the first time that health has been a concern for Lil Boosie; he has also been battling diabetes for years. In May, this came to the forefront when he was in NYC for a show, but his medication had been accidentally sent to Philly instead. He ended up becoming sick onstage during his performance.
Lil Boosie, née Torrence Hatch, is a rapper from Baton Rouge, LA, and is currently 33. His family gave him the nickname Boosie growing up, and the name stuck. Lil Boosie grew up without a father figure in his life, as his father was murdered while he was a child. In late January 2005, Boosie signed a deal with Warner Bros. Records; to date, he has released five regular studio albums while contributing to a number of mixtapes and compilations. In 2006, Boosie’s major label debut album Bad Azz was released. A Bad Azz DVD followed where the rapper explained the death of his father due to drugs and his own fight against diabetes.
Hatch served time in the Louisiana State Penitentiary from 2009-2014, having been sentenced to eight years after pleading guilty to drug charges. While he was incarcerated, it was announced that Lil Boosie had earned his GED certificate. He claims to have written over 1000 songs while in prison. He was released early on March 5, 2014.
