Day 2 of I Love This City at Shoreline Amphitheatre: still rocking. What really blew my mind was the range of music covered by 21 DJs ( and their range of ages). I started the day with Madeon on the main stage – a babyfaced boy-wonder from France. Born in 1994, he’s been composing since age 11 and is now playing sold out arenas to thousands of fans. Absolutely amazing. If music is not the talent he is born with, I don’t know what is! His set was followed by two Dutch superstars back to back, Laidback Luke and Tiesto, who are veterans of the scene and definitely know how to work a crowd. But since they were so on-point, I decided to wander to the smaller stages and show the other DJs some love.

At the park stage, the crowd was small but energetic. Felix Cartal played to a fraction of Tiesto’s crowd, but didn’t give a crap as he poured his heart and soul into the set. You could sense his passion for his art as he twisted and adjusted mixer dials, perfecting the sound so his auditory vision could come to fruition to adoring fans.

I swung by the bass stage and caught a glimpse of Feed Me’s head-banging drum ‘n bass / dubstep set before returning to the main stage for the headlining performance by David Guetta. I’ve never seen him live and didn’t understand the hype, but now I know. His craft lies in taking the audience on an auditory journey that defies space and time. What better way to end the night than dancing with the happiest 44 year old alive?
