Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys reportedly died today after fighting cancer for three years. Moments ago, Russell Simmon’s reported the dreadful news on his website, GlobablGrind–though no official announcement has been made. In 2009, Adam Yauch was treated for a cancerous parotid gland and a lymph node. He had undergrone surgery, and it was publicly announced earlier this year that he had “beaten” (Huffington Post) the illness.
Just two weeks ago, Adam Yauch made this announcement on the Beastie Boys’ website:
“Hello My Friends While I’m grateful for all the positive energy people are sending my way, reports of my being totally cancer free are exaggerated. I’m continuing treatment, staying optimistic and hoping to be cancer free in the near future.”
In April, Yauch did not attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s induction of the celebrated hip hop group. No public statement as to why was given, but speculations about Yauch’s health were made.
