About Glide Magazine:

Established in the fall of 2002, Glide Magazine has grown to become a premier online entertainment resource. By continuing to avoid the rudimentary confines of genre or style, we’re able to devote our ongoing focus to covering today’s most innovative artists, regardless of musical concept or artistic method. What began as a simple website with no expectations and little fanfare has evolved into a comprehensive, award-winning online collective, comprised of over one hundred talented contributors, photographers and dedicated site staff.

Joan Bowlen is a current graphic design student at the Art Institute of California – San Francisco, but chances are you’ll find her gamboling around town, camera in one hand and a neat Manhattan in the other. While her favorites may include Fitz and the Tantrums, The Decemberists and My Brightest Diamond, she can also talk your ear off about Shawn Colvin’s latest goings-on.

Joan photographed The Avett Brothers this past July at the Fox Theater in Oakland, CA. Below is an excerpt from that review, written by Glide editor Peter Zimmerman:

The Avett Brothers’ rise has been meteoric, but not necessarily in response to their studio albums. Instead, they’ve earned the reputation as one of the most vibrant, electrifying and inspirational live acts on the circuit today. Still, cliché or not, the old adage “you have to see it to believe it” is not only apt but imperative for the Avetts. They’re a force full of fire and seemingly boundless energy, and while at times technique yields to passion, their verve for playing to an audience is paralleled by few.
