About Indie Shuffle
In September of 2008, an email went out to a group of friends that included some of the best new music found over a period of only two weeks (bands included Foals, Patrick Watson, and Flamingo Crash). Twelve email “editions” and about 50 bands later, the first iteration of Indie Shuffle landed on the web. Today, the San Francisco-based blog covers indie rock, hip hop, alternative, folk, punk and more, and touts “the best in-house music player of any blog” – a claim we absolutely urge you to put to the test.
Joshua Mellin is a staff writer and photographer at Indie Shuffle, reviewing albums, live concerts and music festivals. Favorite bands include Wilco, the White Stripes, the Strokes, and the Black Keys.
Mellin reviewed The Arcade Fire back in April 2011, when they were still very much awash in that post-Grammy glow. But they didn’t let their institutional anointment as America’s Best Band prevent them from playing a raucous show:
Leaving it all on the stage, the three night stand proved to be a moving concert experience. The reigning #1 not only maintained their title, but pulled even further away from the rest of the indie pack.
