The Hood Internet will play in Chicago on New Years Eve.

The Hood Internet at Lincoln Hall

The Hood Internet have cornered the mashup market. Since their first mixtape in 2007, they’ve parlayed success with posting mashups on their blog into full-fledged admiration on the DJ circuit. They’ll bring their unlikely mixes to Lincoln Hall for New Years Eve, not a bad stop on the road for a crew that built an empire out of our short attention spans. While this show is sold out and will require some scalper savvy to get in, they also play the previous night and there are still tickets available for that one.

Check out their mashed-up retrospective on the past decade in music:

Cage the Elephant at Aragon Ballroom

Cage the Elephant come out with Live From the Vic in Chicago on January 3rd, but you can catch a preview this NYE at Aragon Ballroom. For how consistently they’ve been in the public eye (topping Billboard charts and year-end album lists left and right), this show is not sold out yet. Bewildering to us, but awesome for you. Better to jump on it quick though, because we’re sure the window to buy tickets is shrinking.

Rusko at Congress Theater

Mad Decent poster boy Rusko leads a trio of DJs determined to show you a dubby good time this New Years. The revolving headliner format should lead things open to surprises, as Counterfeet co-founders Switch (of Major Lazer) and Sinden round out three DJs at the top of their game. If you want to end your year drowning in dance music, we can promise too much of a good thing at the Congress Theater on New Years.

Big Gigantic at Riviera Theater

  • Who: Big Gigantic
  • When: 9:30pm
  • Where: Riviera Theater, 4746 N. Racine Ave.
  • Tickets

Consequence of Sound just got done touting the triumphant return of the saxophone in 2011. I’m not ready to dive head first into that assertion, and yet here we are featuring the sax-endowed dance jams from the hybrid acoustic / DJ oddity, Big Gigantic. Their music, like their name, conjures larger than life emotion and a sense of endless open space. They moved this show from the Vic to the Riviera Theater due to high demand, so if you’re holding a Vic ticket, your entry will still be honored.
