Adele

The tour that everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived! Adele will be embarking on a 2016 North American tour in support of her newest album, 25, for a whopping five month run, starting right after Independence Day next summer. 25 shattered the worldwide record for most albums sold in their first week, dethroning reigning boy band, *NSYNC; No Strings Attached had sold 2.4 million copies in 2000, but Adele ended up moving 3.4 million copies when 25 came out at the end of November. The first single from the record, “Hello,” also was noteworthy in the US for being the first song to have sold over one million digital copies in the first week of its release.

Adele’s tour kicks off in St. Paul, MN and works its way through the midwest to the west coast, where Adele will eventually play six nights at the Staples Center in Los Angeles at the start of August. She will travel to the east coast following that, doing another six night spectacular at Madison Square Garden in New York at the end of September. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, December 17th.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on 5 May 1988 in Tottenham, London, the daughter of an English mother, Penny Adkins, and a Welsh father, Mark Evans. Evans left when Adele was two, leaving her 20 year old mother to raise her. She began singing at age four and asserts that she became obsessed with voices. Growing up Adele spent most of her time singing rather than reading; the last book she read was Roald Dahl’s Matilda when she was six years old. Graduating from the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in 2006, Adele was given a recording contract by XL Recordings after a friend posted her demo on Myspace the same year. In 2007, she received the Brit Awards “Critics’ Choice” award and won the BBC Sound of 2008. Her debut album, 19, was released in 2008 to commercial and critical success.
