As some of you may know, Jack White has been having an on-going feud with the people over at Guinness World Records. This comedic string of events all started when Jack decided tell his sister and band-mate Meg White (The White Stripes) to perform just one-note on a cymbal at a free concert in Newfoundland on July 16 2007, claiming that it would be the record for the shortest concert of all-time. Guinness World Records responded, The White Stripes were in fact acknowledged in the 2009 version of the famous tome, but do to huge numbers of competitors, they had to scrap the category completely. They explained:

The nature of competing to make something the ‘shortest’ by its very nature trivialises the activity being carried out, and Guinness World Records has been forced to reject many claims of this kind. As such, we have been forced to cease listing records for the shortest song, shortest poem and indeed the shortest concert.

However, Guinness World Records invited him to go about it a different way, they added: “Many of us at Guinness World Records are enormous admirers of Mr White’s oeuvre, and we would be extremely pleased if he were to attempt any of the 40,000 records that are currently active on our database.”

As a true troubadour, Jack White has accepted the challenge. On the rest of the tour supporting his new album, Blunderbuss, he will attempt to break the world record for most metaphors in a single concert.
