Earlier today, Pitchfork announced that Fiona Apple will open their 2012 SXSW showcase. The performance is scheduled on March 15th at Central Presbyterian Church, an intimate venue with a 400 person capacity. Sure she hasn’t released an album in seven years, nor performed more than a handful of occasions since 2007, but that hasn’t stopped us from being THRILLED by the news. A few years ago one of the most coveted SXSW lineups had Band of Horses playing the same venue–we expect this show will be no different.
Two reasons why we expect Fiona Apple will play some new material. One, it’s been seven years since her last album and just last November in an interview with Rolling Stone she admitted “I can’t remember [how to play] any of my new songs because they’ve been done for a fucking year.” Two, Epic Record’s Executive L.A. Reid recently tweeted “Welcome back Fiona” and told TIME that her record is “absolutely” coming out in 2012 (despite the fact that her record has reportedly been scheduled for, uhm, a while).
Here’s your first taste of what to expect.
