Deadmau5 will take a residency in Las Vegas in 2012.

Deadmau5 announces a year-long residency with XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club in Las Vegas, Rolling Stone reports. The exclusive deal plants the electronic superstar in these two venues for a full year, beginning on January 2nd, 2012.

We’re wide-eyed with anticipation as we speculate what Deadmau5 has in store for the coming year. He’s already established himself as one of the world’s premier DJs, and his stunning visual presentations put him in league with DJ Shadow and Amon Tobin‘s audio-visual spectacles. Compare the former’s Shadowsphere or the latter’s Isam installation to the thing of wonder below:

Deadmau5 clearly exhibits the same flair for the dramatic, an observation that makes me giddy to watch this Vegas experiment unfold. With the luxury to return to the same performance space week after week, and tweak/add to his setup, we can fully expect to see massive installations on a scale limited only by Deadmau5’s creativity and the nightclub’s walls itself. Touring artists must make concessions for space / labor limitations – no such constraints here, which allows him to go completely nuts with his ideas.

Now it only remains to be seen what Deadmau5’s definition of “nuts” is.

What happens in Vegas really does stay in Vegas – so if you want to see Deadmau5 in the next year, looks like you’ll need to work out vacation plans. (Unless you’d prefer Skrillex and Diplo in the Bahamas?)
